Puppy chow takes me back to my childhood days. It is pretty much a fool proof recipe and fun for everyone to make. I really wanted to make something special for my 420th post but CBD limits me to things that are unbaked. (CBD cannot be heated because it will lose its properties.) So I was thinking a lot about things I’ve been wanting to make and that would taste good with a minty CBD oil and Mint CBD Puppy Chow somehow came to mind. Obviously you can make this recipe without the CBD and just have a minty take on Puppy Chow, completely up to the user. I think this is one of the first recipes I completely masked the CBD taste though so I am really proud of this idea. It can also be made vegan if using 100% dark chocolate. In Spain that would have been a challenge so I just opted for normal dark chocolate with mint but I recommend these Hu Kitchen Mint Dark Chocolate bars if you’re in the states.

Before I get into the recipe I wanted to talk a little about CBD and why I use it. We all know it is very “trendy” right now but for me I notice real differences when I take this specific brand of CBD. I personally don’t love taking the oils plain because the taste isn’t great but for me I enjoy using it in foods such as this recipe, smoothies, and so on. I think its important we distimatize weed to being associated with “pot heads” because it can really benefit a lot of people. This is what I notice when taking CBD: reduced anxiety, calmness, and ease of falling asleep. Usually my mind runs a mile a minute and its usually not bad thoughts. I love planning and motivating myself about how I can get the most out of my day and CBD helps me to stay in the moment and relax. I definitely don’t take it everyday or every week even- more so like taking an advil. If you want to learn more about the basics and terminology of CBD, THC, MCT, Hemp, Weed, Marijuana… I made a blog post to help educate you.

Ingredients:

  • 5 cups of check mix or mini wheats unfrosted (I used a version of mini wheats unfrosted because it was all that Spain has)

  • 1/2 all natural Peanut Butter (you can sub for any nut butter)

  • 3/4th cup mint chocolate (I used about 1.5 bars of chocolate)

  • 1 tsp coconut oil

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar

  • A few shakes of cinnamon

  • Charlottes Web CBD Mint Chocolate Oil- use your own desired amount I used about 5 droppers full.

How to:

  1. Put the cereal into a large mixing bowl.

  2. Put the peanut butter, chocolate and coconut oil in a small pot on the lowest heat until everything is one smooth mixture. Make sure to constantly stir to avoid burning.

  3. Take off the heat and add the cinnamon and CBD oil and mix.

  4. Pour onto the cereal and mix carefully.

  5. Add into a large ziplock baggie and add the powdered sugar.

  6. Shake and enjoy right out of the bag!
